How to open files in PowerPoint or Microsoft Word?

Why did my Microsoft WORD files (.doc) become NOTEPAD files after uninstalled WordPERFECT Office Ready?

• WordPerfect was installed on my computer when I got it. I mainly use Microsoft Word and therefore tried to uninstall WordPerfect. There was a regular "WordPerfect Office 12" thing that I got to go away, and another "Word Perfect OfficeReady" that when I uninstalled, made all of my REGULAR Microsoft Word documents revert to simple notepad documents. I did a system restore to go back, but I sitll want Word Perfect off of my system and don't know why it affected my Word files. They may have similar title names, but Word Perfect documents were clearly saved as .wpd so you would think uninstalling word perfect wouldn't care about my Microsoft Word files. As a side note, any files I have saved as a .docx document rather than the 97-2003 .doc documents were unaffected. None of this makes sense!!

  It's Microsoft, so I won't make any excuses for them. It could be one of those glitchy things with Windows. There's a reason I went Mac. ;) You could download OpenOffice.org and save them in Word format with that (or just stick with OpenOffice and just shun Microsoft completely. ;) ). You could also right click one of those files, and go to Properties, and change the "Open with" back to Word. Sorry I can't help with the deleting WordPerfect part. It might be one of those pieces in Windows that has to be there for something else to work. It's all a big mess. You might try OpenOffice (or just go Mac. ;) ).
