How much money can you make through letting people advertise on your website?

Is it really possible to make a lot of money just running other people's ads and links on your own website?

  • Somebody told me that you can earn money from your own website by putting other people's ads and website/business links on it. I don't understand how this makes me any money. Who pays me? How do I receive payments? What kind of ads do they talking about? Sorry for being such a dummy =(

    I don't do ads on my web sites and have never done this. But, from my understanding, it works one of two ways: 1. a company pays you money every time someone clicks on the ad. Like a dollar per click. 2. a company pays you money per month(or year or whatever) to have thier ad on your site. Rregardless of how many people click on it. Now, with the first option it will make you almost no money unless, you have a crapload of people visiting your site. Like in the 10,000s.

Yes, this is called Affiliate Marketing. You can learn more by going to sites like Commission Junction (cj.com) or LinkShare.com. Essentially, companies will pay you every time someone clicks through your site and either registers or purchases something.
