Answer:
I would definitely wait on Vista...at least until all the kinks are worked out of it first! Good luck!

Well, 2 weeks ago i built my own pc and im running vista home premium on it. so far, i havent had any problems, not 1. i have tried a couple of games and there hasnt been any compatibility issues. my speakers, mouse, keyboard etc all work fine. personally i would recommend getting it as it is certainly much much better than xp. and some of the stuff it does automatically is great. my mate who also built his pc is using xp and it took him 11 days to get the internet working... i just plugged my network cable in and i was connected. it is certainly worth the money. I say if the system is geared for it go for it. I have 4 systems and all with xp except this one which is geared out I installed Vista home prem. on it 3 weeks ago and I think it's awesome. I dont play many games but have not had a problem. I think once everyone quits cryin and gets systems that can handle it and they use it for a while they will agree, I know many people that have installed it, but they are not joe with his pentium3 and 256 of ram and wonder why its not right. anyway good luck xp is still great, but vista is awesome and most people are creatures of habit and do not like change!

Some older software is not compatible, and some drivers need replacing, but otherwise I would get Vista. I love it.

having tried vista I found it vey colourful but non compatible with the majority of my software programmes ie Nero reloaded but for one, chip and gaming manufacturers will not be looking at it till next year i downloaded a copy of office 2007 to give it a try but got fed up answering safety questions everytime i did a different operation therefore my opinoin is stick with xp and if you want fancy bits on your desktop download yahoo widgets

I bought a FAST system for gaming. I got Vista 64. It works well, but almost NOTHING runs on it. Word works, but all my other programs, like Picture It, Window Washer, IP Blocker, etc DON'T work. Half Life 2 works but it automatically downloaded a 64 patch. Quake 3, Doom 4, Command and Conquer, iTunes, do NOT work, they will not even load onto the computer... Incompatibility issues. I would recommend Windows XP for now, or MAYBE Vista 32. 64 is fine with the machine I have, but no games for awhile it looks like.

well there have been compatability issues with older equipment working with vista. drivers can be installed to try to troubleshoot the problem, but sometimes that doesnt work. I dont know if you can still get xp unless its a business computer, but if you can cool. i have vista and its been alright, i ended up buying a new printer with it...as far as games go im really not sure about the compatability with that, but all in all its a pretty good operating system

Just like all new products, it has a lot of kinks that need to be worked out. I would definetly wait. Windows XP is great. Vista has too many problems right now that will be corrected soon.

It sounds as if your games will be an imortant part of your computer usage. If that is so you might better stick with XP a little while longer. It is tried tested and solid for games. Yet there are some running games on Vista but if you check the specs on their machines they may have much more hopped up pc's compared to the one you may have your sites set on.
