How to remove vocals from an mp3 song?
-
I tried a lot of things to remove the vocals from an mp3. I tried something called wavesaurs or something like that and i tried audacity, but none of them remove the vocals. The wavesaurs didn't do anything, and audacity just made the whole song quieter, and i tried other songs it only made the vocals quieter, but they are still there anyone know a good program that get rid of vocals completely? Please help greatly appreciated..

Answer:
I don't think you can do what you're trying to do. You want to remove a vocal "track", like if the recording was made with an 8-track recorder, vocals are one or two tracks, and you want to remove those tracks. But MP3 files have _all_ the tracks "mixed" already. So you cannot readily do what you are trying to do. And you've already tried Audacity which would have been my only suggestion, without trying it myself. I'm not a music / audio EXPERT, but I think that's the deal.

No program can remove the vocals completely once the original multi-track recording has been mixed down to stereo. How well the vocal remover function works depends on just how the track was mixed. The result can vary greatly. The vocal is removed best when it's exactly in the center of the track but even then is never fully removed. Bass and drums are also usually in the center of the mix and will, to a greater or lesser extent, be removed as well. The removal works better on some songs than others. I don't know what method you used with Audacity but I've had a couple of best answers for this one. (No, I'm not boasting, it just worked for them). This is possible only for certain stereo tracks. When the vocals are exactly the same on both stereo channels, you can remove them by “subtracting” one channel from the other. This works for many studio recordings, where the vocal track is mixed exactly in the center. Be aware that bass and drums are usually in the center of the mix and could be removed or reduced also. A computer reads the vocal as data, likewise with bass and drums. Unlike our ears it can't tell the difference. To do this in Audacity 1.2.6: 1. Import your stereo file into Audacity. 2. Open the track menu (click the arrow next to the track title), and choose “Split Stereo Track.” 3. Select the lower track (the right channel) by clicking it in the area around the mute/solo buttons. 4. Choose “Invert” from the Effects menu. 5. Using the track menus, change each track to “Mono.” Press the Play button to hear the results. If you are lucky, the voice will be gone but most of the other instruments will be unaffected, just like a karaoke track. You can use the Export commands in the File menu to save the results. Audacity 1.3.7 beta. Open the song in the program Click, hold and drag to highlight the whole song or "Edit/Select/All" then select "vocal remover" from the effects menu. Export and save from the file menu. If you've already tried it this way you could be one of the unlucky ones.
