  • i often receive the following message from my computer in a small box it starts the countdown while displaying the messgae "please save all your files the system is going to auto log off. initiated by NT/AUTHORITY/SYSTEM" it also says "REMOTE PROCESS CONTROL(RPC) FAILED" please help me out

  • Answer:

It is more than likely the w32.Blaster worm that spreads itself on the Internet. I've had the same problem you are describing and that was what attacked my computer. It attacks/exploits a hole in Windows XP that hasnt been updated to SP2. Click this and then click the big yellow Download Removal Tool button and download the removal tool. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html EDIT: If you dont have enough time to execute try to give yourself more time: control panel > admin tools > service > remote procedure calls > recovery tab > change it from 1 min to 10000

This sounds like the classic Worm Virus "Sobig" which infect so many PCs 2-3 years ago. Ensure you get decent anitvirus software & Firewall protection (I Recommend the Symantec products). Also, If you have Win XP sp2, make sure the windows firewall is enabled - and it should prevent it shutting down each time you connect to the net...

It sound like to you have a virus. I would back up anything important and re-install windows. It would also be worth making sure your anti-virus software is up to date and working properly.

Have you checked if you have a virus. My pc did this when it was infected with a virus a while back.

Yes, defenantly a virus note the "initiated by NT/AUTHORITY/SYSTEM" part. That's probably where the virus is. Now, what you have to do is find your computers "boot disk" (I think) and insert it into the floppy drive/CD drive. This might work, otherwise call the computer company, they might have to take your computer apart.
