At least in the USA, the RIAA (the music companies) have announced they will no longer sue people they think are illegally downloading or uploading music - instead they will try to get ISPs to disconnect the Internet of people who they think are doing this.

You cannot get in trouble for downloading. You can and ONLY CAN get in trouble for putting it on there and sharing it, Downloading it isnt a crime (kinda) They hardly go after people but when they do, they go over ppl that have 500+movies and 50000 songs on there

Very slim. When that whole suing episode was going on, they were targeting users who were not only downloading, but uploading as well. The people who were letting others download off of them were the ones breaking the rules, because they were sharing copyrighted material illegally.

They track people by how much music they download. The more you download, the greater the chance of being pinpointed and sued.
