you would need to scan it using OCR (optical character recognition) software. There is no other way.

If you want to save it straight from Adobe Acrobat, you will have to have Adobe Acrobat Pro or Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended. Adobe Acrobat Reader will only allow you to view and save as a text file. You can not change the file extension to Word with just Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Well if you have a scanner then. You scan the document and save as a .rtf file. Presto you have a editable file.

Punch 'PDF OCR' into your favorite search engine. There are lots of programs and online services that do this.

I am pretty certain the only way to do that is to have the Adobe Acrobat software itself, and not just the Acrobat reader. With older versions of PDF files you used to be able to copy and paste into something like Word, but I think that functionality went away several versions ago. The problem with being able to edit a PDF is that it would defeat the whole purpose... that's what the point of the Acrobat software is to make sure it's a "secure" version of a document that cannot be edited, reused, etc...

You could run what’s called an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) program (one may have come with the scanner) on the scanned document and convert it to text that Word can handle, but OCR is an art, not a science. I can almost guarantee that you will have to fix: 1. Mis-converted fonts. 2. Mis-read characters (i for l, for instance, o, 0 or Q mixups) 3. Mangled layout. The scanned document, as a Word file, may look nothing like the paper copy. Depending on the document’s layout, you might spend a lot of time getting it close to what the original looked like. Hope that helps.

You can go to this website to convert scanned PDF to editable file format like word, txt and .rtf, https://www.ocrterminal.com/, but you need to register first. If you want to convert normal PDF to Word or to Text, you can try simpo pdf to word 3.0, it's the fastest pdf converter I have used, furthermore, it can convert tables and graphic objects like line, curve and rectangle from pdf to word.
