How To Make An Instrumental Track?

How do u strip the vocals off of a track to make it instrumental?

  • Answer:

I am going to quote the comment from chordonblue on Digg.com. The link also provides another link to a tutorial (top of page). "This only works well if: 1) The vocals in the original song are recorded in equal volume on each L/R track. The method most devices or software use is to eliminate all sounds that occur in the center. Often, the unfortunate result of this is that a lot of other sounds get eliminated also. 2) Vocal effects processing is kept to a minimum in the original mix - otherwise you're going to hear the original voice bouncing right and left anyway. I have yet to see a vocal eliminator work any other way except to maybe adjust a few frequencies on top of this method. So far, no one has tackled an A.I. - based vocal removal tool that can actually pick out the voice and then completely eliminate it, filling in the spot with background music. Our brains can do this of course. I'm sure most of you out there can think of a song without the words. Right now, even this seemingly simple task is beyond even the most powerful computers but I'll bet you someone's working on it..."
