Can be erase to recordable cd?

How do I erase a read only (Compact Disc Recordable) cd?

  • I burned a movie from the Internet that I want to delete or erase. How can I do that? When I go to delete or erase with my computer it says it is a read only and cannot be deleted or erased. The movie is on a maxell CD-R (Compact Disc Recordable). I used the Nero StartSmart to delete or erase the movie. I also used TDK CD-R cds (Compact Disc Recordable). I also used the same method to try and delete or erase those cds. Is there any way to delete or erase the read-only movie on my cds?

  • Answer:

CD-R are called write once/read many (WORM) discs. Erasing a disc requires you to be able to write on it more than once. If you want to use your discs over you need CD-RW discs are mentioned above.

If the disk is read-only, it is because it is a CD-R and not a CD-RW. This means once its burned, you cannot delete it from the disk. The only thing you can do is destroy the disk and buy another one. Next time you are buying disks and you want to add and remove data from it, buy CD-RWs (or DVD-RWs).

A Compact Disc-Recordable (CD-R) disc is a read-only disc which means that once you have recorded data (in your case, the movie) to it, you can only read the data off the disc and not erase it. So you wont be able to erase the disc. A better option is to use a CD-RW disc on which you can burn data and later erase it or add data to the already existing data.

There is no way you can erase a CD-R. The only ones you can erase are the CD-RW's (Re-Writable). There are meny programs you can use to erase a CD-RW. Yoe can use Nero, CD-Maker, and Clone CD (which I best recomend; to mention a few.
