Answer:
You do not require specific software for taking screenshots. You can do so freely with Windows and MS Paint. If you want to take a snapshot of the entire screen, click on the Print Screen button on the keyboard. If you want to take a snapshot of a specific window, press ALT+Print Screen. Now open MS Paint (Start>Run>type mspaint in the box and press enter), open a new file and press CTRL+V. Your snapshot will be pasted. Now save the file in whatever format you like (.jpg, .bmp, .gif).

You can press the 'Print Screen' button on your keyboard, you can also press 'Alt'+'Print Screen' to take a picture of the active window. to take pictures of videos (not in Windows Media Player) you will have to turn down the video acceleration, by going to tools or options and finding your preferences.

Well the easiest way on Windows is to press the Prt Scr or Alt+Prt Scr button! But if you can't do that for some reason: Snagit is a good screen capture program, though it's only free for the trial. e-Snips.com is an online personal information archiving site that has a tool you install that lets you take screenshots by dragging a box over the area of the screen. Not to mention a lot of other cool features.

In Windows, CTRL+Print Scrn does it.
