How do you convert .MOV videos into .avi videos?

Wht is the fastest and easiest way to convert .mov videos into .avi videos? Because windows movie maker wont import .MOV videos so I wonder if they will import .avi videos. I really need help, and I need a free non virus fast converter that will convert more than one at a time. Thanks! :)
