Conficker Virus: I have Windows Vista, what update do I need or?
-
if my computer is already infected, what do I look for?
-
Answer:
Re your detail: Don't hit the panic button. The latest Vista update is incompatible with some programs. Microsoft scans your computer for these programs before installing the update and won't install if it finds one of them. First, a test: type www.microsoft.com into the URL box at the top of Internet Explorer. If you go to the Microsoft website, you're not infected. The worm cuts off access to Microsoft and to the sites for anti-virus software providers like McAfee, Symantec and a whole lot of others. If you've kept up with Windows updates, patches and malware removal tools, you're fine. If you want to be sure, go here and download from one of the mirrors under the yellow "Downloads" sign: http://majorgeeks.com/McAfee_AVERT_Stinger_Conficker__d6157.html Experts don't know what's going to happen or when. April 1, the worms in infected machines will be given the call to search for instructions. No one knows how long this is going to take or what the instructions will be. It's also expected that most of the infected machines have bootlegged copies of Windows because they can't get the updates or the patches. Most of these computers are in China, India and other countries with high rates of ripped off Windows. If you know anyone with a "borrowed" copy of Windows, now is the time to alert them to danger.

It is a virus that gets into your computer and steals your personal info and permanently destroys your computer and if you have lime wire or any other file sharing things get rid of those right away! and make sure that your computer has the latest virus protection on it the virus can also be spread by using USB cables I found a pretty good website on it when I was trying to figure this out myself its called: http://www.wane.com/dpp/news/local_wane_fw_conficker_viris_not_a_joke_200903311705 just copy and paste it to your browser. it explains everything very well and gives you some websites to help prevent it. Or if you already have it to get rid of it. And by turning off your computer you don't do anything. It is just not in use. It is still connected to the internet. Hope I helped.
