    ok it's much better than Y!Messenger, i use it frequently to get in touch with my family and my brother who live in another country instead of buying international phone cards. all you need is a high speed internet connection (for voice and video) though it's not necessary if you just use the text chat... about adding people it has a built-in search engine, you can search the name of the one you like to get connected to. Skype works with and without a web cam or microphone just like other messengers. how to search? lower left of your software screen you can see "directory" with a magnifier icon, when you click it it will bring up search page. my brother uses it on his vista, and i have it on my xp so yes it works on either ones. Skype is a software application that allows users to make voice calls over the Internet. in other words, it lets you video chat with your friends. In addition to video chats, you can also just voice chat over the internet with your friend and you can also message your friends (like aim or Facebook chat). To make calls, you will need a web camera, a microphone, and internet, but you can still message people with out the camera/Mic. To find your friends, you select directory and search your friend's name. An eeasierway though, is to just ask your friends what they're skype name is and search for that in the directory. Once you've found the person you want to "friend" click add contact and send them the request. Once you have contacts on skype, to video chat or message them, just select their name on your list and select chat. Just know that you cannot have a 3-way video chat on skype, only a 3- way voice chat.

skype is basically video chatting software . how to use it? ok it is very easy to use skype first you install it in your pc then start it from desktop (the icon comes on task bar also) then you have to create your account on skype . then connect your microphone to pc . the person you want to chat with must have skype then you can find him from contacts -add new then just click the button video call on window and you can chat with him. you can also send him images or videos and text message also .

skype is a video chat so without a web cam and microphone it wont work
