How to install modern Warfare 2 from Steam?

Call of duty modern warfare 2 install help please!?

  • I just spent £40 on my copy of modern warfare 2 on PC , I bought it from the shop , no torrents! I install the first disk then register it on steam , now steam is downloading a big *** file thats going to take 12 hours to download ! WTF Is this ? What do I do with disk 2 ?.. Help please! Surely their not making me download the whole game , are they ! ? :( I'm very p****d off I would appreciate your help. P.S My connection is slow/ 286kbps. I'm not going to download the whole game from the net when I bought the Disks !! arggghh :@

    Try this, it worked for me: The fist time I tried installing the game, I had the same problem as you did. And was also very mad when I saw that I had to download the game, since I had the 2 DVDs next to me... Then I closed my Steam Client, so that I could still see it's icon in my notification area (Windows - lower right hand side). I inserted Disk 1 again into my dvd drive, and clicked "reinstall" once the menu appeared. The game then installed from my DVD drive, instead of from the internet. Hope this helps! Cheers, JS

J S got it right! It's now working for me. Man! What a stupid way to waste our time. It would have taken me 5 days and 10 hours to download the whole game file. How could the developers have overlooked this stupid mistake. It's just installation jeeeeez!!!!

This worked for me as well, I can't believe they released a game this high profile with a F***ed up install process, way to go activision, idiots.

I did what u said I reinstalled it even asked for the 2nd dvd, finished and said i can reach these games in my steam games folder. But now it wants to fckin UPDATE again. any1 knows what to do ?

what a fcuking idiotic issue we have to deal wit, I cant belieave it...anyway thanks to JS. Im installing the game from disks now...

Im using windows 7 and i opened my dvd drive and ran the Setup as Administrator. This fixed all the install issues that i have read about so far.

I have the same problem if I get the answer ill tell you....i know how it feels not to be playing this awesome game!!!!! im at %4....
