Lost Display Image?

How can I copy the display image?

  • Recently, my gf lost all of her photos when a computer tech accidentlty erased them. She has a display image of the only photo of us together in her ym, but how can she save it on her computer and share it with me? Is this photo stored on the host PC? If so, where can we find it?

  • Answer:

I would not called that idiot a computer tech as anyone worth the name would have asked whether you have backed up your personal files and/or used a Flash USB drive to back them up for her before doing anything. Plus, he probably didn't know what was wrong and went for the idiot's repair method of re-installing the operating system. This is a last resort repair and he could have try the Recovery Console instead. In fact, he could have asked if your gf had the Recovery Disc sent with computer or had burned a set. He could have burned a set himself if he needed to use them. There are data recovery software out there and may work if you have not installed a lot of programs. Free data recovery software - http://www.google.com/search?q=Free+data+recovery+software&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a The trial offers do not do a great job as they want you to buy. This may work for you: http://www.files-recovery.org/win-data-recovery-free.html Any image you want to download from the Internet just requires right-clicking on it and selecting View Image or whatever the equivalent is in your pop up Context Menu. My Firefox uses View Image and I have an add-on that allows me to open and view the background image. You MUST get the image by itself to save it to your computer. Once you have only the image in the browser window, just do a Ctrl + s to save and browse to the Desktop or the My Pictures folder to save. I do not keep my personal files in folders like My Documents, My Pictures, My Music, My Videos, etc., as these are system folders put in when Windows is installed. A re-install of Windows will wipe these clean as hard drive is formatted first. Any programs are usually there still but all have to be re-installed along with any drivers as the new install also wipes and re-writes a new set of Registry keys. Good luck. Ron
