How can I make changes to an existing web site?

• My company needs to make changes to it's web site done 12 years ago but the original developer can't be located. How can I change the site when I don't have the files or the log in capacity? I have filezilla and a web site delveloper.

  Without the log in credentials you are going to have a few problems because no company in their right mind is going to just hand them to you. I've done this before for various companies and it's a pain. Email the host you need to provide them with the name of the person who was responsible for updating the site as well as the company name. They will probably ask for a whole bunch of IDs which could include your personal ID, driving license or whatever as well as proofs from the company which could include letters from the owners or directors as well as the company incorporation documents. If you don't have the domain registration log in you're also going to have to email the registrars and probably provide them with the same proofs. If the domains were registered as private you also need to contact the company that handled that and they will need those proofs as well. Some companies will also ask that the proofs are notarized. They need those IDs to prove a) you are who you say you are, b) that you work for, or an an agent for, the company whose website you're about take over and c) that the company is legally trying to regain control of those accounts
