How to view a linux file?

On Ubuntu Linux, how do I make it so I have File, Edit, View, etc. To be on the bar at the top similar to mac?

  • Answer:

You r using gnome which is not very customizable. There r ways to do it on your system, but if u have to ask here then I doubt u will be able to do and I don't want to be responsible for destroying your system. If u were using KDE then all u would have to do is right click on desktop choose configure desktop then choose behavior. There will be a section called menu bar at top of screen. Choose Mac OS style. In KDE this menu bar will only work for KDE applications and not for gtk applications. If u do manage to do it in gnome then it will only work gnome applications and not kde. I don't recommend u do it in gnome, I have done it but u should be perfect in compiling software and stuff. If u do want to take the risk then I will send u the link to download the packages from. Good Luck!

Just wanted to add to Snakeeyes answer: You can install KDE in ubuntu: sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop Then just log out, click "session" and choose KDE

All the software will have these buttons if you use the kde desktop, gnome is not that flexible. Also under kde there is a theme you can load to display like a Mac. Try loading the KDE desktop.
