Why do i get an error message http 400 bad request when i try to access a page from a remote server?

i have a web application that allows me to view certain information via a remote server. i access the server via a link posted on the website, sometimes when i try to view certain pages, i get http 400 bad request error message. what could be the problem? i have tried using IE version 6.0 on windows xp and 7.0 on vista
