That's right. You can view the source, save the source, modify the source as much as you want. But, unless it is your site, you won't be able to upload it and change it. So, if you didn't like Yahoo!'s homepage this morning, you could view the source and change it...but you wouldn't be able to upload it to and change Yahoo!'s homepage for everyone else to see. What did we learn? - One cannot edit the source of someone's site and then replace their site with the new source - One can view the source and save it to one's computer for modifying and viewing for personal interest and local use - One can obtain one's own site to create, upload, view, and modify to one's content because it is one's own site

You don't edit the source on the website, not unless it si your site. You can view and save the source and edit to your hearts content but it is not going to change the original site.

Kenneth & Henry Tran are correct. You can't change the actual website information. Unless you have access to the server. However you can still play around with the look of the website on your end without actually changing the live website on the server. You can use tools built in to some browsers. You can download firefox's firebug plugin. This allows you to make changes to css and html if you need to test things out quickly. Its great for when you want a visual of how things would look if you changed the code to the website. If you like the changes then you would just make those edits in your file from a text editor and upload that to the server. Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Opera have these features built in and don't need a plugin. Google Chrome - go to Settings(Wrench Icon) >Tools > Developer Tools Internet Explorer 9 - Tools (Gear Icon) > Developer Tools Opera - Tools > Advanced > Developer Tools Basically these tools are great for debugging websites.
