What should I be doing now for a career in graphic design?

What is the best city in the country to begin a career in Graphic Design?

  • I am currently in college working towards earning my B.A. of science in Graphic Design. I will be graduating next year and I want to move out of my small town and get a jump start on my career. Where would be the best place to begin and survive the cost of living at the same time?

  • Answer:

I assume that you mean the country of USA. Maybe I am biased as a New Yorker, but New York City has an abundance of graphic design schools. The advantage is that you are among a lot of great talent. It also means you have to work a bit harder than elsewhere. Because there is so much talent looking for work experience, finding a job that pays enough to cover the rent may be a challenge. But why not give it a try? If you put a good NY school of design on your resume and an apprenticeship at one of the well known studios, you will be able to work in a lot of places.
