Microsoft Access - Multiple people accessing same database at the same time?
-
I have a database set up that orders parts from the warehouse of our building. My database sits out on a network and whenever someone from a department needs some supplies they go into the database and fill out the supply request form. Upon completion it emails the warehouse and lets them know what is needed. My problem is that it only allows one person in the database at a time. So if someone opens it and leaves their desk with the program open, no one else can place orders until it is closed by the other person. How can I fix this?

Answer:
You need to split the database. You have the tables in one and the queries/forms/modules and macro's in the other You then point the front end ie the one without the tables at the back end the one with the tables. Using linked table manager. You can then distribute the front end to multiple pc's on the net work. leaving the backend (tables) residing in one area So many front ends to one backend. I have done this on many access databases with resonable success. This is a work through for access and is an acceptable method of data sharing. You may need to tweak the table permission a bit but it is easy.
