Any advice on setting up a business website?
-
I have the idea, I am actually copying a popular website based business but doing this in a different location and plan to advertise the business. Basically all I need is a website to get started. This might start out small but grow bigger, and could do so fast. Is there a way to set up my own website, or is it best to just get a professional designer? With my host I already get free web space but I'm not sure how large that is so I'm looking into this as well. I have read that I will need to optimise search engines SEO. This is all new to me and I am wondering the best way to start and proceed, I'd rather do it more cheaply to begin with or else find a good deal on web design, I read I can even lease the website and design with one company, does anyone know if this works? How much roughly does it cost to hire someone to design a business website (in Australia). I've just been emailing to ask for quotes. Any help appreciated thanks!

Answer:
We have all been where you are before. Other than researching good SEO techniques, all you really need besides a good business model is an attractive layout. However your layout can only take you so far, your site will need a good amount of content to gain footing in whatever your niche area is. You can either do this your self (cheaper), or outsource to seasoned writers/bloggers who will probably do a far better job (recommended) while you can focus on your SEO. Take care in choosing a layout as this reflects on your businesses reputation. And you should incorporate social media from facebook, twitter, Goole + etc..You will not get half the traffic you would otherwise. My suggestion, speaking from experience, would be to hire some designers and writers through sites like "elance.com" to handle all of the back-end functionality and content. When started out, I applied for an invite to "thevault.bz" which is an entirely business related online community dedicated to business strategies and online marketing, if your lucky enough to get an invite, it will be the best thing for your business, there is loads of incredibly useful information for "rookies". Check it out and apply if you get the chance, it is most defiantly worth your while. The most easiest way to get a business website at low or no cost is to use a service called SiteGiver. I have used them to create a website for my friend and his small business and we had a very positive experience with these guys.
If your business web site is informational only then there are many free services like www.web.com that will set one up for you for free. At some point this turns into a paid monthly service. If you need a web site that sells stuff companies like www.shopify.com can set one up for a monthly fee. There are companies that do online appointments including www.appointments-plus and www.eservicecart.com. From the outset you should concentrate on getting your site found. It will take some time for the search engines to find your site and get it returned in search results. If your business depends upon being found on the web Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is critical. You can do this yourself but it is much more effective to have an experienced company handle it. Be careful, there are a lot of scams in this area. Find a reputable smaller company in your area. I would recommend speaking to a business assistance organization. In the US, we have the Small Business Administration (SBA). If you are starting a new business it's best to use the experience of others because it is way more costly to have to learn it on your own. The question on how much would it cost to develop a web site is a hard question to answer without some idea of what you are doing. Once again for these questions I would seek assistance from business advisersfor a good company.
It's better you should design your website through a skilled person. You can get customized website templates in very cheap rate. These are also very good. Regarding SEO, you just outsource those company who are experienced in Social media marketing. SMO is very important in order to optimize a website.
As you plan to copy a popular website: There are lots of scripts that copy the functionality of popular sites available on the net. Search for them.

As you do not seem to have any clue as how to develop a site (no offense intended), I would strongly recommend that you use the services of a professional, especially for a "Business". (An amateurish business website is a GUARANTEE for failure, and so is the use of "free scripts" and "templates"). But developing your website is NOT you biggest problem... nor cost. On average you can get a pretty good basic e-commerce from $12-1500, worldwide (don't try to get it made "in Australia": the web is worldwide! I am in Portugal and have developed sites for Autralia, Italy, US, Germany and many more countries...) Once the site is completed and tested, SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) will be advised by many people: that is a general scam! Even well optimized, that will cost you at least $500... to get a few visits a month only, and after several months. Visits are NOT brought in by search engines: they are brought in by ADVERTISING, on and OFF the web. The best methods are placing adverts on well visited sites (like here!), but the cost, on average, is above $1000/MONTH. Google Adsense is not bad either, but only if you have a market TARGET (geo-targetting or niche-targetting), and you spend, at least, $800/month. The best of all is, of course, TV... at 2-5k/m Ads in the papers are good as well. In short, for a web-based business, expect 2-3k to develop it, and 10k+ to advertise! If you DON'T have that budget, I am sorry, but it won't work! (18 years experience).
I can design a website for you :)
