Why is Javascript called Javascript, if it has nothing to do with Java?

What is a good book to try and learn Javascript?

  • I have a degree in graphic design which also consists of a little web design. I would like to learn more about the web design aspect of the graphic design profession. In my schooling, we barely touched on web design and that consisted of a brief run through of Dreamweaver. We did not learn anything about HTML or CSS or Java or anything like that. I took it upon myself to get a HTML and CSS book and teach myself. I read the "Head First: HTML and CSS" book and thought it was fabulous. I have not heard great things about the Head First Javascript book though. I know nothing about Javascript or Java or programming or anything like that so I would need a book that starts at the VERY beginning and explains everything. Does anyone know of a good book that will teach me about Javascript? Please and thanks!

  • Answer:

Note that Javascript and JAva are actually two different things. Although they are both web programming languages. FWIW: i learned javascript programming from the book "The book of Javascript" by Thau. Keep in mind that I already knew several other programing languages, so I'm not how this book would be for a non-programmer.
