How to choose a font for a website?

Where do I place the font in the FTP files so that it displays on the web page?

  • I have been currently creating an website for a WoW guild. We are using an FTP server, and after a leave of absence I am once again getting used to using FTP again. I have decided to use a program called Page Breeze to do all my editing as it works fine. Now the problem that I am having is that, I downloaded a couple of fonts from some different websites and I was looking for some input from others on which one to choose. I was under the impression that the people who would be going to the website would be able to see the fonts, because I was able to pull them up on my computer. However, since I have these file on my computer, I was clearly mistaken as the others were not able to see the different types. If you visit www.nightlife.1019.net you will notice 5 different choices of text, which are all exactly the same, just with a different size. In pagebreeze I am able to change the font and it looks fine on the preview and even on my browser, but if I visit it with a different computer I receive the plain basic text, if I do not have the files on my computer. Now I am under the impression that I have to also add the fonts to the FTP server, which is easy enough to do in theory. Except I have no idea where to put them and I have looked through all the files and I have no idea. So I know it might be hard without being able to see the files, but if anyone has any suggestions or different ways to change the font please let me know.

  • Answer:

The only way to get an uncommon font to display in every viewer's browser is to make a text image using that font. A font can be embedded online, but is only supported by IE. See WEFT: http://www.microsoft.com/typography/web/embedding/weft3/ For those not using IE browsers, they will only see their default font as set in their browser. Ron
