How do you close a web page which won't close?

  • So often there is a web site, usually worthless spam, which has this effect that when you hit the "X" to close it, a pop up comes up which states, "do you really want to close blahblahblah? Click here to continue learning how you can make thousands at home." or other such nonsense. How do I change my tools or whatever to force a web site to close when I click the X?

    First click stop, then try click the close button again. IF that don't work... right click on your start bar. and click start task manager or alternatively press ctrl+alt+del. click processes highlight iexplore.exe(Assuming you're using internet explorer if not highlight firefox.exe) then click end process. when prompted, click end process again. after you have done that, check your browser to make sure you have the latest version.

I'll start by saying, some of those pop up are viruses. When you click the X, you actually just installed the virus. If you get popups like that, ALt+f4, will close the window, and the browser. you'll need to reopen, the drawback is that if you use firefox, it'll try to recover the session, so you may have to close it again. The other option is to Ctrl+shift+esc(directly brings up task manager, no other selections to go through) to bring up the task manager and just close it that way(select, and end task). There are pop-up blockers, but they don't always work, i've installed almost all of them for testing, and i still get those popups(it also screws up some sites that use popups for streaming players). No tool exists to automatically close when you press the x on any popup, it's a scripted response, that is part of the site, not your browser.

You can always force close it with Task manager - Ctrl + Alt + delete

Common problem. The only fix is to do the three finger click, Ctrl-Alt-Del, and close your browser.
