What is SAP?How will it helps an organisation? Whats its cost to set up and learn?

  • Answer:

SAP is an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software. It is currently the world’s leading provider of business software and caters to the needs of small and midsized businesses as well as large global organizations. When the required parts of SAP is present, it is capable of running the entire business process of an organization in real time from production, sales, finance, stores... the list goes on. The various parts of SAP that caters to each of those areas of a business are called 'modules'. SAP can be customized depending on the industry, for example the automobile industry, aviation, oil industry, pharmaceutical etc. Since most of the large multinational companies as well as some small and medium sized companies around the world are now using SAP as their information system, it is an advantage to know how to use it. As per the common belief in some countries, it is not at all necessary to do a course in SAP in order to use it and it is not a major requirement to get a job. Going for certification in SAP is required only if you intend implementing SAP solutions as a career. It is not all that difficult to lean to a user level. Most employers train people to use their systems soon after being recruited and therefore shouldn't cost anything. However if you were to apply for a job at a company that runs SAP, it would be an advantage to have read a bit about it.
