Business Idea involving computer programming.?

  • I have an idea to start a business involving computer programs. Do I need to hire an attorney to trademark this new business idea or patent it? I want to be able to speak freely about this idea but dont want anyone to steel it. How would I go about securing this idea legally?

Once you turn your "idea" into an invention, you can file a provisional patent application for $125 and reserve your rights in the future patent while you confidentially shop your invention around for investors. The more people who know about your invention, the more competition you will have by the time your patent is issued (at least three years from now, if ever).
