Where can I find a good site to make a personal website?

  • I want to primarily host a webcomic online but I would like to find a site that can support the comic and possibly have a wiki styled archive for side information on anything in the story. Also I'm not for all these cliche templates that are on sites by default so I need a site that allows you to edit code or has an engine that allows me to customize layouts and images, etc. Also weather this be a feature on the site already or able to be coded into the site, I'd like to have passwords and access blocks to sections of the web page. Since I'm just starting out I'd prefer a free or trail type site, but if there is a charge site that really seems like it'd be money well spent based on what they'd offer then I'd have no problem with that. Thanks~

Well you can not get a real .com domain name for free, sorry. But they are just $10 at http://www.newinternetdomains.com You can get reliable hosting for $2.99 at http://easydch.com/hosting that includes the Wiki engine installed for you for free (and others http://easydch.com/apps ). But this is also a 'real' hosting account where you have total control over all code etc. and you have .htaccess which is needed for real password protection.

Yola.com works for me. It let's you have a free website. I don't know about the password thing though. The website url will look like: www.(name).yolasite.com Another website building place is wordpress.com. The problem is it's a blog but it can get on search engines much easier.

I doubt that you'll find anything out there that will cover that. Just get a hosting account and write your own. won't cost much at all.

You will need PHP and a database for some of the things you want to do.
