Answer:
The people who make Ubuntu try to include as many drivers as possible so you don't need to do it. I've installed Ubuntu on many computers through the years, and only on 1 did I really have a driver problem. What you do is you go and download it from http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download (choose 32 bit if you're not sure if you should pick 32 or 64). You can put it either on a USB drive or a CD. I don't have experience with putting it on a USB drive so: Get an empty CD, put it in your CD drive. You'll need a program for burning Ubuntu to the cd. I use http://infrarecorder.org/ - just download this, install it, open it and press "Write image" and then choose the ISO file you downloaded from the Ubuntu site. Reboot your PC and choose to boot from the CD. I can't help you here though as computers are different and I don't know how yours is. From there it should be a matter of following the instructions on the screen.

Looks like you have enough links and "how to's" already, so I will not give another. But.... - I have used Ubuntu for just over 3 years now....I have never, ever had to type in a command. Everything has been point and click with a mouse. I find Ubuntu much easier than any windows os. There are several other Linux OS's that are very good. Linux Mint id good. Mint 11 may be the better one at the present, although 12 looks pretty good.

You can get it here : http://www.linuxmint.com get ersion 12 the DVD version if you can, burn it to a disk and boot to the disk. If you just want to try it out you dont even have to INSTALL you can just run it from the live disk. However if you want to install it and still keep windows you can dual boot (partition your drive and have 2 operating systems and choose which one to use) That info is here: http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2011/06/11/dua%E2%80%A6 Enjoy man!

Go to Ubuntu dot com to download it. One of the answers above didn't give all his premises -- a lot of us do NOT recommend Ubuntu, especially for Newbies. We tend to recommend Linux Mint instead. I won't go into why. You're an adult and if you care you can find discussions of the pros and cons online. What you download is an iso file you can do one of three things. Burn it to a CD or DVD, Here is a page about how: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto Alternatively you can burn it to a flash drive: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick Or you can use a virtual machine. There is always wubi but usually you would install that from a cd/dvd or flash drive. Anyhow you don't have to install it. Ubuntu isn't Windows. It shines when you install it but you can run it quite well from your live cd or USB stick -- and most drivers are built into the kernel. I don't recommend it. But you're an adult.
