How to add links on the fly in a website?

Im making my own website from Dreamweaver and i dont know how to add pictures or picture links to it in code?

Ive got the base of it down, but ive made links to different picture sections (if that made any sense) and i need to figure out how to download pictures onto the section (link). I looked up a few codes to begin, such as <IMG ALT…> and then i have to have a GIF file? right? but i dont know how to do all of this. If you know anything about how to add a picture file onto a website through Dreamweaver, PLEASE HELP!

  In your OS, browse to the folder that contains your website. In there you can create a new folder called images. Any pictures that you want to put on your site will go into this folder. After you add a picture, in Dreamweaver you can add this code to show the picture: <img src="images/picture.gif" alt="This shows when the picture cannot be found">
