I want to create a DVD picture slideshow to give as a gift. What is a good computer program to do this with?
-
I am planning on creating a digital scrapbook as a gift to my boyfriend for our anniversary. Basically, I create for him a DVD that he is able to watch on TV, like a "mini-movie" using pictures of us and with music that we listen to playing in the background. However, I am NOT computer-saavy at all and am hoping to get some tips on how to get pointed in the right direction. What computer program should I use to complete this project, and how would I do it?

You probably have Windows Movie Maker already on your PC. I have not used it personally but have seen many projects like you mention from other people who have used it and they all say it is very user friendly. Give it a try.

If you have microsoft powerpoint, you can use that to make your slideshow w/o having to spend money. However, if you are looking for better slideshow program, photodex pro show gold is the best program that's out now. http://www.photodex.com I've used it several times and it's easy to use with the help of the manual. They have lots of special effects so you can be creative with your slideshow. Plus the program allows you to add in video into the slideshow too. And with that added feature you can enhance your slideshow even more with video loops. I've done that a few times and it definitely makes the slideshow look really cool! I like going to http://wwwinstantimagers.com for all my video loops so does my friend who did numerous of slideshows for fun and for family and friends' weddings. They also have a good selection of dvd disc and cover art that turns boring, plain white dvds into a great looking gift. Good luck with your project.

If you're not computer saavy, then try Pro Show Gold from photodex.com. Their program is very user friendly and the user interface is easy to navigate. I tried a bunch of different slideshow programs in the past and I like this one the best. The program allows you to add music, text, effects, and lets you burn it to a cd or dvd disc. If you don't have a dvd writer, you can still make a vcd that plays on a dvd player. The program does cost a little more, but it's worth the money. As a gift, I would visit www.instantimagers.com. They have cool video loops and dvd cover art that makes your slideshow project stand out. I've been using them for months and really like what they have to offer. If you don't want to spend the money, go to www.download.com and do a search for slideshow or photo montage. The results will return a list of software that you can download for free, or try for free. Some do cost money, but you can see what others are saying about it. Free trials are a good way to test the software before you buy. Hope that helps. Good luck.

If you have access to a Mac I would highly recommend iMovie.
