Back when I was your age -when the dinosaurs roamed the earth - I used to make $200 - $400 a week. And we didn't have computers then. I mowed yards (any kind of yardwork), babysat, washed windows (that was always good for a hundred bucks) and cleaned houses. And I went to school full time.

If I were you I would learn how to theme myspace and facebook pages and try to get your friends to pay you to make cool CUSTOM themes for them for $20 a pop or so - you might not make a lot of money but you will make some and you will learn a lot

When I was 15, I knew C++, x86 assembly language, PHP, SQL, Javascript, and HTML, and had written my own CMS. Last year, when I was 16, I began doing commercial work as a consultant. I only work a few hours per week, but the pay is great. (I charge $45 per hour - about half the going rate for college-educated consultants.)

You will not make money with such knowledge. When I was 14 years old, I knew HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP/MySQL and could even write my own CMS. I did not make any money. You'd be lucky to make 20 bucks. Cheers.

PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF I'm 14, and i know fluent HTML, CSS. and i also know quite well how to code in PHP, mySQL, XML, C, and UNIX but you don't see anyone paying me that much, infact i don't get paid. lol, keep your hopes up kid, and get better. -Zack PS: the best you could get with your knowledge is maybe... nowhere. PSS: people could probly learn HTML and CSS faster than if they spent $400. PSSS: the guy below me is also trying to make you join the army... EPIC LULZ!

You can make money, I don't know what the previous person was talking about. I work for the Army and make an extra $1500/month working three hours a day on the side from my main job. With that said your best bet isn't to find sources online. There is too much competition online from other countries like India that will do complex programming for ten bucks an hour. Put out flyers and maybe a decal on your parents car. Advertise like that, in other words cheaply. Craigslist is a great source for local advertising. I get tons of replies from them. Then you need to learn how to put a proposal together and how to quote, you need to know your cost and then give them a flat fee, most people today don't want to pay hourly, they want to know the end cost so you need to know how long it takes you to do certain things and then quote accordingly. I generall charge $25/hr for XHTML/CSS/HTML, $35/hr for JavaScript, $50.00/hr for PHP/MySQL and then up from there for Ruby, .Net, Java and such. Hope this helps, peace. Also learn Flash, check out www.netcitydesign.com, I built it. People nowadays love the look that Flash provides.

No matter how good your chops are, it will be difficult to get serious work at 14. However, if you can break through that barrier of getting people to trust you or hire you a few times, you might be able to get a little portfolio of work you can show people who are hesitant because of your age. Anything you can do to look more professional (like get business cards) will help. I agree with the comment that you should try more traditional forms of marketing than online - be outgoing, talk your services up to people whenever you can, hand out your card - those are the things that really get you the work. If $400-500/mo does it for you, you should aim to lasso two projects a month at $200-250 each. I think those are reasonable numbers if you have to ask what your work is worth, accounting for your age, etc. The more and better work you do (and have to show) the more you can charge.
