How do you convert pixels to inches?

How do I set up my Image to be 5x8 inches and have 300 Pixels per Inch?

• Hello! I'm currently attempting to publish a book. However, who I'm publishing with requires the image for the cover of my book by at least 300 DPI. Which means Dots Per Inch, and in a more welcoming method, Pixels per Inch. I've come to the conclusion that increasing the size of the image will make it's DPI rise. However, the image HAS to be 5x8. Otherwise they won't accept it. Which leads me to question... exactly HOW do you do that? Make an Image be 5x8 inches AND have at least 300 Pixels per Inch? Any help is greatly appreciated.

  You can set your graphics editor's new canvas to 5 X 8 inches and set the DPI to 300 before you make your image. Changing an image already made at a lower DPI is not going to be much help. The DPI only increases the overall file size, not the width/height. Usually making images for printing are done better in a vectored format (*.svg) at 300 DPI or better. 5 X 8 at 300 DPI is a 1500 X 2400 pixel image.
