Visual Basic is a Microsoft programming language based the the early BASIC programming language. It is different than other languages purely because of the simplicity and how easy it is to implement it into applications.

As above - VB is based on BASIC - which is a high level user orientated language. The Visual side of it is the innovation from BASIC - in that it is like Visual C++ - but C is closer to the processor (low level). COBOL is geared towards business packages,Fortran to maths,and ADA I think is a control language. VB alows you to build a program using components like sliders,buttons and text boxes and then fill in the coding in sub routines.
