As above - VB is based on BASIC - which is a high level user orientated language. The Visual side of it is the innovation from BASIC - in that it is like Visual C++ - but C is closer to the processor (low level). COBOL is geared towards business packages,Fortran to maths,and ADA I think is a control language. VB alows you to build a program using components like sliders,buttons and text boxes and then fill in the coding in sub routines.
