How do you put a photo you took on Wikipedia?

I know you can type what you want in a Wikipedia page, and I know how to do that, but I can't seem to figure out how to put a photo you took on a page. I have it in my "My Pictures" folder and tried it the other day, and it never showed up, and some stuff came up that I didn't understand. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
