What are some good ideas for a database design?

  • For my computer class we need to use microsoft access to design a database. I just don't have any ideas for what my database could be about. I don't have any expenses or anything or else I would choose to design the database using that. What the heck can i possibly make my database about? I can't just plug in random data that doesn't make any sense. Can someone help me? These are the instructions given to me by my professor.. Design a database that has at least 3-4 tables. You should first brainstorm all of the data you want in your database by questioning what you want to know from the data you gather. After you think you have gathered the the data fields you want, make sure you break them down. Meaning you would not simply use "address" as the only field to input the address data. You would break it down to street, city, state, zip, and so on. Make sure you identify and primary and foreign keys in each table. You also need to connect your tables by showing the relation ships to each other (example: one to many). This project confuses me so much!

  • Answer:

The example that may professor always uses is a database about a company. One table has employees, another supervisors, another has what employee works on what project, one has the project names and locations, and another has dependents. You could do that. It really isn't that hard to make up names and addresses and such for all the tables. Just ep-mail or IM me if you want to know more about this idea.
