How do I get companies to advertise on my website?

Sign up for google adsense and you place some code on your page and google matches adverts against the content it thinks your page is about. Downside might be that you might have trouble configuring it to look right, or to fit into specific places/sizes in your design. Another downside is that if the adverts are advertising something based on your content, the ads might take visitors away to buy from a competitor 3) Sign up as an affiliate - could be a good route. You pick the programmes/products you want for your site, so not competitor products. Apart from that - have a look at other similar websites - who advertises on them? Make a list. If your website is local, then look at other local websites. If it is industry specific (say building) then look at your competitor building websites. But it comes down to popularity - if nobody is going to your website you will have a hard job persuading people to pay to advertise on yours. Plus, if you approach companies they may tell you that they've spent their budget. If you are in London, say, you could probably fill the space quite easily by phoning around as you can pretty much sell anything to anybody there but the more rural the location the harder the sell will be. In fact, it might take you several hours of talking to people to sell one space for £10. Hope that helps!
