What is the fastest web browser ever, or the fastest for Ubuntu?

  • i have a ubuntu and i have to say Minefield 4.0 is the fastest browser ive ever used, but is there a faster browser? chrome, opera and firefox are not as fast as minefield

    I assume you are using the Mozilla Daily Build ppa (ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa) This is highly unadvisable as there are likely to be security flaws. 'Minefield' is a very apt name. It is much better to install the Official Firefox 4.0 Betas using this method http://www.johannes-eva.net/how-to-install-firefox-on-ubuntu-linux This tutorial refers to Beta 11 however Beta 12 has just been released so you would need to modify the script from tar xjf firefox-4.0b11.tar.bz2 to tar xjf firefox-4.0b12.tar.bz2 I have been working with Firefox 4.0 since Beta 7 using this method. Aside from Firefox 4.0 it is worth taking a look at Google Chrome for Linux (deb. package is available for Ubuntu) http://www.google.com/chrome?platform=linux LUg.

If we really were to get down to it. . . you might say w3m or lynx would be the fastest (they're command-line text based browsers) :p Seriously though, Minefield (Firefox 4.0 beta) is amazingly fast. However, once you have like 45 tabs open in 6 different groups, it gets a little slower.

While w3m, lynx, and links are all excellent, fast text-based browsers, I find dillo to be even faster.
