How to setup and create my own website?

I need help developing a website. What program should I use.?

  • I am not a computer programmer. I am looking for a GOOD webhost that fits my needs. I have looked at a few like Fatcow and socialgo. here is what I want to do. I am part of a veterans club at college. I have figured out how to create my website, but I would like to create a website that would allow other veteran clubs from other schools to easily create their own site within my site. I would like to have the clubs centralized(within one domain), easy to setup, and professional. Am I asking for too much? Webhosts like socialgo seem very basic and looks like it only allows one page for different groups(clubs). It looked as if it was the same thing I could do on myspace and facebook. I dont like myspace or facebook. I hope this made sense. Does anyone know a webhost that would fit my needs. Free is great, but a monthly fee is ok also.

You asked what program to use. That is not the same as most people think that it is a size. A site does not make your web site. You do!. For what you want to do is going to take something like what wix.com has for making flash pages or a Chasthur's Work Shop like page for making web pages and viewing the results. If you want people to edit web pages, TinyMCE - Javascript WYSIWYG Editor might work for you. Or, WysiwygPro is an advanced online HTML WYSIWYG editor that can be embedded in a web page. If you were asking about tools to make your own web site: WYSIWYG Editor List: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HTML_editors#WYSIWYG_editors Basic text editors: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HTML_editors#Basic_text_editors Source code editors: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HTML_editors#Source_code_editors Comparison of HTML editors: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_HTML_editors Regardless, you want interaction with your Visitors, you will need server-side scripting language and databases for difference actions. Paid hosting is the best way to go. You have so many options and have a great Control Panel to use to manage your site. Some of the better hosting sites provide all kinds of nice programs to install from the CP should you want them. Apps like Photo Gallerys, forums, eCommerce, PayPal and more. Just check each package offered thoroughly. Facebook is your answer. You would need a ton of programming knowledge to set up databases, create your own hosting services, set up communications, etc. Just use Facebook. All clubs at my college run things through Facebook. The only times I created actual websites were for public events (non-intercollegiate) we hosted that needed to be advertised.

Have a look at Webs.com. There you can get a website like http://www.XXXXXX.webs.com or, starting at $20 a year you can get a custom domain: http://www.XXXXXXX.com Webs.com has a variety of tools to help you build your own website, so have a look at that one.
