How do i set up my own web page/site?

  • I want to set up my own web page or web site but i dont want to pay any fees etc. Surely you can do it for free? Can anyone help me?

    There's plenty of places to get free sites, but setting up a proper website is both cheap and easy these days. Look into it. In the meantime there are plenty of free, nasty alternatives such as: Geocities Freewebs Spanglefish buildfree.org or perhaps a blog like Blogspot, or Wordpress and a custom layout? In response to below. Steve is a jerk. My domain and hosting is costing me ~£35 a year. And his site is very poorly made.

A good place to start is Global Domains International. They have site builders, host your site, and give you a domain name all for 10 dollars a month. I have a website with them myself. They even pay you when you refer other people to them. You can do it for free, but most people will tell you that it is better to have a unique domain name, and a little bit better hosting than what the free ones will provide. http://website.ws/thehallster

First i would like to say that i have never used a free website builder. I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for but within reason . If the free website builders out there are not working for you . Check out vipersitebuilder.com . I used that one for my site and it came out really kick butt. I get to build 5 websites for $14.95 and if i get traffic to them and have some adsence. it will end up being free

There are plenty of hosting companies. There are two types of hosting. Paid and Free. In paid hosting, you get to choose the name of your website in the form "www.yoursitename.com" In free hosting , the name will be of the form "yoursitename.hostingcompanyname,com" If you want free hosting, there are many providers. Some are Geocities, Bravehost , Freewebs, 0fees, 1stfreehosting, Freehostia ,.. The first 3 provides facilities for making websites online without knowing any HTML or any such kind of web designing knowledge. So they also put ads ob your website. Big banners on the top or on the sides,.. The last 3 needs you to design and make a complete website. They only provide space for putting that website. They doesnot put ads on your website. They also provide PHP support and many other things like that. 1stfreehosting offers 20GB of free space.

Get some free hosting from Geocities, maybe? (There are other hosting providers around too that will give free hosting, just need to look around). Then there are plenty of themes available for WordPress, which is easy to install and can manage the content for you.

I know a site that does good websites not like the cheapy rubbish free ones produce. You do have to pay but its extremeley cheap compared to others that can reach easily past £600. Find it at www.steveswebdesign.co.uk
