Convert video file to sequentially numbered pictures?

Here is my problem. I am doing a final project which tracks images as they pass a camera using Kalman Filtering and Background subtraction. The program is written in Matlab and takes sequentially numbered images (i.e. pic001.jpg, pic001.jpg) and records changes in subsequent images. I need to convert a video file (.flv, .mp4, .avi) to images (.jpg, .png, etc.). What would be the best way to do this process? I have both a mac and a PC that can be used. I am also happy to work with programs written in Matlab coding.

just have a try the Aiseesoft Total Video Converter and i think it can help you. Cause with this program, once you get one desired movie scene, you can take a snapshot and save it as a picture. it supports jpg, .png, etc. you can google it first and have a try by yourself. good luck to you
