When do you age out of a web design career?

How would I get a career in Web design HTML Web Development.?

  • Okay so I love coding HTML, CSS. I don't go to college yet to study Web Design because I need to get better grades in maths first. But I know that's what I want to do for a living. The only thing I am concerned about is how would I make a living out of it once I'm finished college? I know I would have the skills to build websites to make money of but it wont always work out that way so other than that how would I make a career? how would people know that I Design websites? I don't care much for money but I will have to in a few years and don't want to waste my time on something that quite frankly wont get me a job.

    The market for "web Designers" is overcrowded with 90% of amateurs who do not know a tenth of what the web is. It is a cut-throat business where everyone tries to "get the job", but very few really manage to make a living of it. I have known MANY enthousiast entrepreneurs launching a "Web Design" company, only to fail withing a year. So, BE CAREFUL! Only if you are "at the top" do you have a chance. Getting jobs is extremely hard after a few months: jobs are getting more difficult, clients are getting more demanding. I suggest you register with vWorker.com, as a designer, and analyse what the buyers want and how much they are prepared to pay. That will give you a guidance. HTML and CSS will get you nowhere: you MUST be fluent with MANY other languages (especially server-side and, nowadays, mobile programming). Your best chance is to get a job within a well established company, as a junior. At least, you will have a basic salary and be in an environment where you will learn from others. Otherwise, start on your own, in your spare time, but don't leave your day job... Good luck, anyway...

Also, check online free resources like w3schools and many more, just search in Google "free web design tools"; "web design online learning resources" and so on. There are companies looking for freshers so you can apply there; you may not find many but it would depend on your skills and web design knowledge and they will grab you. Initially working with a web design company would provide you more exposure and also then you can take freelancing projects, you can register with websites like freelance.com and grab good projects once you have work experience in web designing. Well you can have your own website which shows your entire portfolio and the sites you have designed. Apart from this you can register in Freelance.com or Elance.com which will help you to get good projects and create a reputation. Start taking projects from business around you, create your website with your deigning services and market it. Showcase all the website designs you have made. Work for companies which are already into Designing try and get freelance work from them. All this will help you create a Brand and Reputation for your self. Ask your friends / people in your family for references to get designing projects. Get Business Cards made send them to Corporate Companies and your friends and families. Do Email Marketing for your website with your contact details. At the end of 2 years you will be a know Designer (you need to prove your work though, give quality designs). All the Best!!!
