I use hostdime for my host and it's quite good. These are some things I consider when searching for a host: "Look for Cpanel and Easy Installer: Personally when going with a web host I'd choose one with cpanel. The reason is because these are the easiest for me to manage any website. I'd also look for a host with a installer script. This safes you a lot of time especially if you want to use content manager systems such as: Joomla, Wordpress. The above is VERY important if you didn't get what I was talking about because you're probably less of a techy person(I am too) so you might end up using CMS to simplify the process. It saves you dealing with the coding and learning html that you can get straight to building your website. It's also very complicated imho to install them manually. Choosing your Specs and Avoiding Unlimited: Another aspect you want to look at would be spacing and how much bandwidth you require. Personally you don't really need much; those unlimited has to be tempting and when you're new you're lured into them. I was but guess what... They aren't really unlimited. Unless you show me a harddrive that is truly unlimited and a connection that is unlimited there aren't unlimited to me! Additionally many have restrictions. In short: **Wouldn't you want to know what you're limited to instead of having supposedly unlimited only to have your account terminated for over use? or worse slow sites because of overselling servers** In my humble opinion if you're looking to build a simple information site a good diskspace to expect would be 1GB(on the high site) and 10 GB for bandwidth is all you'll really need. Pricing: Next is to look at pricing. Webhosting is a very competitive business and as a result you have many options with pricing. You have to watch out though there are many businesses that have high pricing targeting the higher end. However you can get equally good service and servers with more in your wallet as well! It's a matter of research and finding a good, reasonable host. Nowadays with advancement in technology servers and bandwidth cost have decreased greatly. I personally would expect to pay no more than $10/month for a shared hosting. This should probably be enough to get you about 3-4 sites there. Shared hosting prices range from $3-12 on average. Watch out though there are many low prices out but you might end up paying your savings for headache medications which is why it is important to look for a good webhost. Watching out for Scams: Webhosting is just one of those very competitive business and thus there are many business that "fly by night". They come up one day and the next day they're gone! While maybe not the next day but soon enough. You have many options with thousands of webhosting companies thus it'll be your fault if you skimp on the research and end up with a exploding timebomb for a webhost. I'll share with you some of my tips on how I avoid scams: First I'd look for reviews of previous customers and do a quick search of the company history. Do be aware that many of the reviews and solicated or influenced. Thus some good webhost can be badly reviewed while a bad webhost can be praised. I've seen many instances where people are paid and ask to post reviews for web hosts. With a multi million dollar business this big there are bound to be some who take the less acceptable business methods. There are reliable reviews though but you just need to know how to find them. To be sure those reviewers actual reviews and host their sites at their reviewed host you might want to compare their website with the name servers to see where it is hosted from. This is primary a good indication of whether the reviewer actually host their site at the host. Another important prevention tip would be to constantly back up your data as well as sticking to the monthly plan. Although they may try to lure you into a yearly plan with huge savings there is a great risk associated with yearly plans. I've read many stories of people paying yearly only to be taken of their webhost and their $$$! I have however successfully purchased webhosting on a long term though but that is if I know the host is absolutely trusted! There are many other aspects you need to take into play.
