How do I make a digital picture smaller so I can insert it directly into an email?
-
I am trying to insert a digital photo into an outlook message. I don't want to add it as an attatchment (I'm sending this to Grandma, and that is just to hard for her). Is there a way to put it directly into the email without having to scroll up and down and side to side?

Answer:

Try this : on the photo you want to insert : In an icon view, or file view, right click on the photo, select "send to" then select "email recipient" that will automaically bring up a window that allows you to select "Make all my pictures smaller". Use that option to shrink the pics. However - your Grandma must use HTML editor on in her email client to view the pics directly, or use yahoo mail.

all you have to do is right click the file and go to properties. then click on the compress file button in the properties. it makes it much smaller. or you can make it into a zip file.

It depends, if the picture is a bitmap (.bmp) you can open it in paint and save it as a jpeg. If it is a jpeg then it is already compressed but you can still make it smaller is size(kb's). When you right-click an image and select send to email recipient it usually prompt to decrease the size. Just remember the smaller (kb's) your picture is the more quality you loose.

Right click on the picture. Then select Copy. Then go into Paint. Right click, and select Paste. Go to Edit. Select all. Then go to the Image menu, and select Attributes. You can then customize the size of the picture.

Most image editing software (or digital photo albums) have a image -> resize option when you can reduce your image to less pixels x pixels. A good size to send via e-mail is 640x480 pixels ie. 640 pixels up and 480 across.

I usually size the picture in my photo program by clicking view / size and then save... After that, you're ready to attatch it to an email

There are several programs/software on the market that can "edit" photos, but if you don't want to spend money on them, then go to the site below, and click on downloads and just fill in the blanks in the search box to find an editing program that's free. Many come as shareware, where you can download a free trial for a time-period, then buy if you like it enough. There are even a few free ones out there.

In outlook, you can usually resize it directly when you put it in the body of the e-mail, if you click on it, it should display little black squares around the perimeter of the picture for resize. Other than that you can do it through Photoshop, Paint shop pro or simply MSpaint :)
