How do you make symbols on the computer?

There are many ways to make different symbols. Using &name; constructs only works in software that is programmed to understand and accept them. For instance, & lt; creates a "less than" sign (<) but only in certain circumstances, such as an html document. A consistant way to make symbols is to use the Windows Character Map. Go to Start > Run and then type "charmap" and hit OK. Here, you can find many different symbols in many different fonts, then simply copy and paste them to wherever you want to use them! § ÷ Ǿ ۩  ∞ ▲ ◘ ☺ ♀ ♂ ☼ ♠

There are several ways you can do this. Quickest way is to hold down the ALT key on your keyboard, then use the numeric keypad to type a 3-digit number. For example, 236 produces the ∞ (infinity) symbol. Another way is to click Start => Program Files => Accessories and run the CharMap utility. This lets you pick and choose from symbols contained in various fonts, and then copy them to the clipboard to be pasted in a document or wherever. One last way which isn't very practical is to open a DLL or EXE file using Notepad, look for a symbol you want, then just copy and paste it from there into your document.

To make symbols go to Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Character Map For there u can make all kind of symbols and copy and paste them to Ms word or anywhere else.

I just use the ALT key along with numbers. ALT+3= ♥ ALT+4= ♦ ALT+1= ☺ ALT+6= ♠ ALT+13= ♪ ALT+14= ♫ Its works with any 4 combination of numbers.
