There are a 100 possible reasons for this. but as you mentioned a "slowing down" don't overlook the possiblity of a having a virus on your system.

(please don't listen to some of these people. They don't know what they are saying. Don't perform a step that might end up crashing your computer even more. YOUR INTERNET PROBLEM IS NOT CAUSED BY A VIRUS. Your IE should just be reset to default. That's all.) The basic help, depends of course on your Operating System. Like the windows version of your computer. IF YOU ARE NOT USING A WINDOWS VISTA, and then you are using Internet Explorer version 7, I suggest you downgrade back to IE6. Anyway, for your problem, here goes. This would definitely work for dial up, and also for high speed connections. First on your Internet Explorer, up on top, you should see there TOOLS; like where it says File, Edit, View, Favorites, TOOLS, Help. After tools, click Internet Options. **If you don't see the tools on Internet Explorer, then go to start> control panel> INTERNET OPTIONS. After you click on Internet Options. You are now on the general tab. On general click on delete files, and delete cookies. Then up on top, beside the general tab, click on Security. Then click default level down below. After default level, on the pictures up on top, click LOCAL INTRANET, then default level again. Then on the icons again on top, click on TRUSTED SITES, then default level. And do the same thing with RESTRICTED SITES. After that, click on PRIVACY tab and click DEFAULT. Then go to CONTENT tab then click on CLEAR SSL STATE. Then go to the CONNECTIONS tab where it should be giving you the list of your connections, ok. Like there is a window there where it says VIRTUAL AND PRIVATE NETWORK, you should see the list of your connections. Click on the list of your connections then click on SETTINGS on the right side. Make sure that no boxes are checked especially for USE A PROXY SERVER... Just click OK after leaving all boxes NOT CHECKED. Then back on the CONNECTIONS tab, make sure the DOT is set to NEVER DIAL A CONNECTION. Then on the PROGRAMS tab, click on RESET WEB SETTINGS. It should be asking you something after clicking on it, before you click on YES, take the check out on ALSO RESET MY HOMEPAGE. Lastly, click on the ADVANCED tab and click, down below, RESTORE DEFAULTS. After all of these, just click on APPLY and then OK.

There are 3 possibilities that I can think of... 1. you havent restarted your computer in quite some time (mine stays on 24/7) and after a while you run low on virtual memory and the computer itself becomes extremely slow with programs locking up etc. 2. Are you using a wireless connection? Its possible your router might not be working so well any more or something else causing a weak signal. 3. Do you have a download limit with your ISP - what happens if you reach that download limit before the end of the month? The group Im with dont charge you extra but they do cut your connection speed back to 128kb/per second which in todays times is just too slow for most web sites

try restarting your computer that should do it

You either have an old computer that isnt working very well or you are not connected to the internet. Check your connection. Good luck!

Run the computer thru maintenance - right click the C drive, tools, and error fixing. Makes sure both boxes are checked. This will scan and clean up the drive, might take a little while if never done before now. After it's finished, go back to the tools and defragmentation. Again, if never done, be patience and restart the computer after it's done even though it doesn't say to. Another thing would to lower the security levels just a bit in the browser tools under internet options. Click the internet custom link and set to medium and the local internet custom level to medium-low. It'll ask if it's ok or something like that and say yes. Your pc should run better and a little faster, too.

the internet connection cannot get through, there is a high chance your using wireless and the signal is weak.
sounds like there is a problem with your internet connection. try unplugging it for like 20 seconds and then plug it in and try it again. hope this helps :)
