How to create an effective Index with this query?

Can I create an executable to create a query in MS Access and export the results to Excel?

  • I have an .mdb database. I created a query. I exported it to excel. That's all fine and dandy... but now I have to help hundreds of others do the same thing. I made a cute little instruction sheet on how to do it step by step, copy/pasting the SQL code for the query. Unfortunately it has to be automated because there are far too many people who have a wide range of experience with computers. Most of them have never used Access... some can probably follow the instructions, but regardless I was told that it had to be automated or we can't go on. (I would even be willing to manually extract the needed information myself for the ones who can't do it themselves just to get the poject rolling if I could...) So...that's the situation. I found a place that shows how to create a macro to export the query to Excel, but I'm not sure if I can use that to actually create the query as well, plus I need something that the users can just double click on without even having to open Access. http:/www.microsoftbob.com/frontpage/m… Please help :)

  • Answer:

one idea to think about...instead of exporting from Access to Excel, why not just "import" the data in excel. Excel has a database query import feature that lets you import data from a database (access, sql, or whatever) directly into excel. And once the data has been imported, the user can simply right click anywhere in the data results and select "refresh data" to re-query the database and pull in new data (assuming of course they don't have to change any criteria). If that will work for you, then you could just simply build the spreadsheet and send it to everyone and tell them to "refresh" the data whenever the want to. in excel 2003, go to Data > Import External Data > New Database Query. for excel 2007...not sure (I hate it!) :-))) try: http://office.microsoft.com/assistance/asstvid.aspx?assetid=XT101493291033&vwidth=1044&vheight=788&type=flash&CTT=11&Origin=HA101491511033 --------more------------> if the above doesn't work, check out this question. Maybe the "best answer" of this one will work in your case too. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtHqF1WyL6JAS3iD3gJ0DkTty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080804075117AA2gxAq&show=7#profile-info-VsaIEm1Aaa
