What can a switchboard in access do and not do?

Help with creating Ms. Access switchboard ?

  • I am trying to create a switchboard which will allow me to filter or sort records. I want to have like a drop down menu on the switchboard which will allow me to select a specific field value of the records i want to see. for example if i have two fields; customers and city, i should be able to select say a specific city on the switchboard...and this should open my form with the records pertaining the celected city ( i already have the form, I just need to know how to create such a switchboard......i dont know if i need a macro, and if i do, how do i make it....thanks

  • Answer:

STOP! Don't use a switchboard, if you are referring to using the built-in switch board, use forms instead. Set the button properties you add to the form to navigate to the pages you want. Once you get the hang of it you'll thank me forever. Switchboards are annoying and can get messy when you want to change things around. So let's say you do use a form. Create it to look however you want - that's one of the huge benefits of using a form over the switchboard. Now make a button to run what you call a query which selects all from whatever table with city equal to the one you want.
