How do I compile the Linux kernel tailored for the Android platform?

I have compiled the Linux kernel for a PC, but I'm lost regarding to the compilation of the Linux kernel tailored for the Android platform. Does anyone knows how to do it? I don't know how to configure the kernel to support the hardware of my PDA (ex. the equivalent to the "make menuconfig") neither how to compile code for an ARM 920T processor in a x86 PC.
