How do I extract files from a specially coded zip file?
-
I got the game DarkSector for PC, and all the sound, video, and 3D texture files are contained in ".cache" files. I renamed to .zip and I can view all the files, however the CRC32 on all the files is 00000000, so I can't extract them. I then removed the extension entirely and opened the file in WinRAR. WinRAR said that it was a damaged .zip file, but the game runs fine. I would assume the game decodes the archive, but there's got to be a way of extracting them...

Answer:
It sounds like the .cache files are compressed/encoded using the software developers own library. Without having access to the library functions to decode the files you are unlikely to be able to get at the contents. You could try some of the sites/forums where the game patchers hang out as they may know more about it. Googling patch game forum may provide some sites
